A Virtual Reality System for Motor and Cognitive Neurorehabilitation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Here we present a virtual reality system developed for the rehabilitation of motor deficits following stroke. A virtual reality augmented feedback system or the Rehabilitation Gaming System (RGS), presents the patient with a training scenario that is designed to promote the rehabilitation of the upper extremities. RGS allows rapid and online diagnostics of the patient’s capabilities and the dynamic personalization of the rehabilitation scenario. We present the basic design considerations between RGS, its neuroscientific roots and preliminary results obtained with stroke patients that illustrate the main properties of the system.

Using mixed methods to evaluate efficacy and user expectations of a virtual reality–based training system for upper-limb recovery in patients after stroke: a study protocol for a randomised controlled trial
BACKGROUND In recent years, virtual reality has been introduced to neurorehabilitation, in particular with the intention of improving upper-limb training options and facilitating motor function recovery. METHODS/DESIGN The proposed study incorporates a quantitative part and a qualitative part, termed a mixed-methods approach: (1) a quantitative investigation of the efficacy of virtual reality...

Globally, stroke is the second leading cause of death above the age of 60 years, with the actual number of strokes to increase because of the ageing population. Stroke results into chronic conditions, loss of independence, affecting both the families of stroke survivors but also public health systems. Virtual Reality (VR) for rehabilitation is considered a novel and effective low-cost approach ...

متن کاملNeurorehabilitation Using ‘learning by Imitation’ in Virtual Environments
This paper describes the theoretical background and key features of a novel virtual environment system for motor re-learning that has been developed in our laboratory. The system has been designed to facilitate the retraining of motor control in patients with neurological impairments, such as stroke or acquired brain injury (ABI). It consists of a computer, specially developed software and an e...
